We fought for this—and we got it.


Boss Global Radio™ will soon stream in true hi-fi stereo at 320 kbps AAC-LC, making us one of just a handful of stations—out of thousands worldwide—broadcasting at this level of quality.

Our partners confirmed the upgrade this week after we specifically requested it, pushing past the standard limits most stations settle for. They even had to customize the encoder to make it happen. As they put it:

“We had to customize the encoder to do 320. It’s the absolute max it will go — but it’s done.”

Now we’re just waiting on their final backend work. Within days, the switch flips. And the difference? You’ll hear it.


🔊 Why 320 kbps Hi-Fi Stereo Is Rare (and Why We Insisted)

Most streaming platforms—and most radio streams—don’t come close. Here’s the reality:

  • 📉 Spotify Free & Premium: Streams at ~96–160 kbps on mobile, maxing out at 320 kbps MP3-equivalent Ogg Vorbis, but heavily compressed & algorithm-managed (source: Spotify FAQ, What HiFi)

  • 📉 Apple Music: Streams at ~256 kbps AAC with ALAC lossless as an optional download (source: Apple Support, Mac Rumors)

  • 📉 iHeartRadio, TuneIn, and most online stations: Stream at 48–96 kbps, sometimes even mono or parametric stereo. Many don’t even disclose their bitrate.

We refused to settle for “good enough” or “what everyone else does.”

Instead, we requested the highest possible setting—and our tech partners delivered.
