Andrew Clarke, known on air as DJ Andy, has been part of radio culture for decades, long before streaming and automation became the norm.

He started the traditional way inside a radio station library, putting away vinyl records. Early on, he was told he “didn’t have a voice for radio,” but it quickly became clear he had a natural gift for production. That skill opened the door to overnight radio, recording midnight-to-dawn shows onto VHS tapes during the earliest days of broadcast automation.

After stepping away from radio for a long period of time, Andy later returned through a local station, eventually hosting breakfast shows and rebuilding his on-air presence. It was during this time that a station manager introduced the idea that would shape his future in radio: Asian pop music.

In July 2020, Asian Pop Music with DJ Andy officially launched. The show began with a limited selection of instrumental tracks, and from there Andy built the entire music library from scratch. Every track, artist, and playlist was curated by hand.

​

The heart of the show is connection. Andy does more than play music. He shares context, meaning, and insight into the songs he features. If a listener may not understand what a song is about, Andy makes sure they walk away with an understanding of its message, culture, or story.

Asian Pop Music with DJ Andy is built for the listener. The focus is discovery, learning, and experiencing the music in a way that feels personal and real.
